In tourism, there are no two days the same. The industry in New Zealand is booming with visitors coming from all over the world to experience what Aotearoa has to offer.
The New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Travel and Tourism) (Level 3) will teach you how to give great customer service, teamwork and communication skills to help international and domestic visitors explore and truly appreciate New Zealand’s amazing destinations.
You’ll get an understanding of the importance of tourism to our economy, and understand how indigenous cultures add value to the experience visitors get when they explore NZ. The indigenous values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga are taught throughout this programme.
Industries and operations
In this module you will build a foundation of knowledge and understanding of the different industries involved in travel and tourism, and how they work together to support the New Zealand economy.
Tourism workplace practices
You will learn about the roles and practices within a tourism workplace. There is a focus on techniques that can be used to cope in the workplace during stressful, peak seasons. You will also learn about the legal requirements in the industry and the key sales techniques used in the industry.
Destination New Zealand
This section focuses on the characteristics of New Zealand that are relevant to visitors. You will develop in-depth knowledge of New Zealand as a destination and a thorough awareness of what products and services are available here.
Tourism customer service
You will learn the basic customer service principles required to be successful in the industry, along with how to create workplace documentation such as invoices and itineraries. You will also further develop your sales skills along with relevant technical skills such as processing card payments. There is a focus on the different cultures that visit New Zealand and how our culture fits into the tourism industry.
