Hospitality is exciting! Whether it’s working mornings at a downtown café, or serving cocktails in an upmarket bar till midnight, hospitality staff are always in demand. As a hospitality student at Academy New Zealand you will be learning from skilled and dedicated tutors who will set you up to enter the hospitality industry in entry-level roles.
You will learn how to make the perfect flat white or hot chocolate along with delicious cafe food while at the same time perfecting the art of giving customers an awesome dining experience.
Health and safety, food safety and security practices
This module will teach you the relevant food safety requirements within the industry and how to apply personal hygiene requirements to work practices.
Effective customer communication and professional behaviour
By the end of this module you will be equipped with the skills required to interact with staff, managers and customers in a professional way.
Resolving problems in a hospitality establishment
You will be able to demonstrate that you know about standard operating procedures in a hospitality environment.
Preparing and serving food and beverages in a café
We will teach you how to provide good service in a café environment. You will also learn how to prepare and cook basic pastries, cakes, sponges, scones and sandwiches in a commercial kitchen.
Preparing and presenting a range of espresso beverages
This module teaches you all about coffee including types of beans, harvesting, decaffeination and fair trade requirements. You will be able to make a range of coffee beverages along with other, non-alcoholic cold drinks.
A minimum of one weeks work experience is built into the programme to give you real-world experience in the hospitality industry.
